A Balanced Color Palette with A Touch of Mysticism

Welcome to ColorForward™ 2027, the latest edition of Avient’s annual color trend forecasting tool for the plastics industry. For the 21st time, our team of designers, marketing specialists and CMF experts has crafted a unique guide of four global societal trends expected to influence consumers’ emotions and color preferences in 2027 and beyond. This inspiring package includes 20 aesthetic concepts to help designers and marketers make informed color choices for new plastic products and packaging. You can find an overview below of the four global societal trends identified for 2027. 

• Al-Kusuuf: On August 2, 2027, the Moon will perfectly align with the Sun for the second-longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century with a path of totality traversing several countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This rare and breathtaking celestial event will invite us to pause and contemplate our place within the vast universe and on our planet. Al-Kusuuf’s color palette features rich hues and mystical undertones.
   
• Our Promise 2U: The unwritten rule in filmmaking – 'don't kill the dog' – speaks to the emotional power of pets in our lives. Our bond with pets is evolving, with people often treating them as beloved family members and seeking top-notch care for their well-being. As a result, the pet care market is poised for innovation and growth, driven by a deepening connection between humans and animals. This palette mixes neutral colors and exuberant hues.
   
• Which Floor?: This trend story explores the multifaceted concept of luxury, which varies greatly depending on individual circumstances. As the wealth gap continues to widen, our luxury perception is shifting. The stigma around opting for more affordable alternatives is fading, with 'dupes' and second-hand purchases becoming increasingly accepted. This trend’s color palette predominantly features pastels and neutrals with subtle special effects.
   
• The Box:  As our lives become increasingly saturated with digital stimuli, concerns about digital fatigue, cognitive stagnation, and flattened creativity are growing. In response, individuals are turning to micro-pauses, analog hobbies, and digital detox, but also striving to place humans back at the center of design and creative endeavors. Like Which Floor? the palette for The Box mainly includes soft hues and delicate special effects.
