The "Unbox a World of Endless Possibilities" campaign by Merck showcases the innovative application of effect and functional pigments in creating sustainable packaging solutions. This initiative features an interactive demo tool that highlights pigments suitable for both plastics and printing industries.
The tool presents elegantly designed bottles, each exemplifying a unique combination of color and functionality, crafted with sustainability at the forefront. These bottles exemplify the adaptability and brilliance of Merck's pigments, enabling brands to customize and create eye-catching, sustainable luxury packaging that distinguishes itself in the marketplace.
To create this toolbox, Merck has teamed up with Avient, Eastman, Gramβ, and W. Mϋller.
The mono-material cardboard toolbox includes transclucent PET bottles as well as opaque/gradient PP bottles.
The bottles have been created using effect pigments, laser marking, and printed sleeves.
Avient provided several solutions suitable for recycled polyester and polyolefins to help create the bottles in the toolbox:
OnColor™ FX™ Special Effect Colorants with pearl (blue, orange and white interferential) providing translucency to allow recyclability and premium effects for luxury packaging.
OnColor™ FX™ Special Effect Colorants with pearl (unique formulation skills to support the process of gradient colors) providing innovative color effects with recyclability for standard color polyolefin streams, together with differentiation options for maximum shelf appeal.
OnColor™ NIR Sortable Colorants allowing for polymer recognition and affording packaging a second life after recycling.
Cesa™ Laser Additives ensuring packaging is not detrimental for recycling as per RecyClass guidelines for PET and polyolefins, providing differentiation together with custom design options.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculation is available for all the colors formulated for the toolbox.
