The use of thermoplastic composite materials in semi-structural applications has increased in recent years. The growth in usage is often due to metal replacement initiatives in applications where lightweighting and part consolidation are required. The two most popular grades of nylon for metal replacement are type 6 and type 66 (PA6 and PA66 LFT).
However, due to their hygroscopic nature, nylon-based composites experience a reduction in structural performance when moisture is absorbed. Avient engineers have developed moisture-resistant PA6 and PA66 formulations to moderate this performance degradation. Download this white paper to read about the evaluation of these new materials.
